Sainsbury's Sport Relief mile

There are many programs around the world that seek to do all types of positive things for the citizenry.  One of the best examples of this is the 2012 Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile.  Based in England, it is a super way to combine many different things that are positive for the people of the United Kingdom.  The event will run from March 23 until March 25 2012.  What is it and what does it consist of?  It is a mile walk and run that anyone can become a part of.  There are donations that are given based on individual or team efforts, and these fund raising donations go to a general fund that then betters the life of people around the United Kingdom as well as the world.

Children can receive sports equipment or a safe place to play, counseling is often provided for those that need it, and even career training can be found.  While the programs that are provided are varied, the basic idea is to help others.  At the same time the event helps everyone get active and realize the important of staying fit.  While these are great goals, it might not be the best idea to just start running a mile with no training.  The website does provide many different tips on preparing for the event.

The key preparation is to make sure you are ready is nutrition.  If your body is not fed correctly and consistently then you will not be able to perform well.  Add to this the need for water and you begin to understand the importance of being solidly prepared.  Once your body is hydrated and fed correctly, make sure you have the right clothing and equipment that is broken in and you know how it world with your body.  And, before you begin training, please make sure you are warmed up so as to not strain or pull a muscle.  Of course, a training regimen is important as well.  Get started by going slow and for short distances, increasing your speed or distance periodically and building slowly to the required distance.  This will all prepare you for the strain of race day.

If you have determined to do the run and you have prepared to fund raise then you have to know how to get involved in the race itself.  This is fortunately the easiest part as all you need to do is go to the company website to enroll.  Alternatively, you can go to www.sportrelief.com and register as an individual or as a team.  Regardless of the way you choose to participate, know that you are helping others by raising money.  You are part of something that is keeping others fit, and you are making sure that others less fortunate than you have the ability to have a life that is better than they may have otherwise had.
