The story about the sale of the Nike MAG shoes first broke on Youtube, which is fitting considering the futuristic nature that sites like Youtube must have seemed to those living in the 80’s and it caused quite a stir among Back to the Future fans, and Nike fans alike. Nike decided to invite faithful Nike shoe collectors to the announcement of the sale of these limited edition Nike MAG shoes, and announced that 1,500 of the Nike MAG shoes would be sold to Nike collectors and fans around the world.
The shoes that were featured in the movie have had fans attempting to replicate them for years, some with more success than others, but it takes a famous and established company like Nike to replicate the Nike MAG shoe just right, so that it imbibes the spirit of a true Nike shoe, seamlessly blending this with the futuristic look and cool gadgetry aesthetic of the shoes Michael J. Fox wore in Back to the Future II. With their smooth grey exterior, their LED light fixtures and their other futuristic features, Nike has certainly hit the design spot on, and this beautiful design will allow Nike, in conjunction with Michael J. Fox, to raise money for all of those who are currently fighting against Parkinson’s disease, in a quest for the cure.
While these shoes were recently auctioned off on Ebay, if you are a true Nike shoe fanatic and collector, then you still may be able to get your hands on them. Looking online to get a pair is the best thing you can possibly do when you are looking for a pair of the Nike MAG’s, as well as other retailers who sell collectible items and rare Nike shoes like the Nike MAG. While there has been no further talks as to if they will actually reissue any more pairs of the Nike MAG shoe at a later date, there are likely many Nike collectors out there who would be interested if Nike ever did decide to issue another run of the futuristic and highly collectible Nike MAG’s.
