One of the biggest events that Nike will be hosting in 2012 is the ASP event. While Nike hasn’t openly commented on their involvement with the ASP event, and neither has the ASP officially, there have been many sources that have come out and said that in a short period of time Nike 6.0 will make the announcement that they will bring the ASP event to Sydney, Australia this year. This athletic surfing event has been scheduled to take place this year in between the Quiksilver Pro, as well as the Rip Curl Pro, drawing the event a lot of media attention.
There have been many talks that Nike will host a Sports Summit again this year, much like the event held last year by Nike. The last Sports Summit made their main target Native Americans, along with Aboriginal youth, looking to educate them on the important of participating in recreational team sports, and how physical activity associated with sports is a good thing for the youth to be educated on. The Sports Summit, if hosted again in 2012, will likely mirror the same themes for other minority and unprivileged groups around the world. They provided entertainment utilizing local cultural and entertainment sources, and had many guest speakers on the importance of health lifestyle choices.
Another event that you can expect to see hosted by Nike in 2012 is the Nike Festival of Sports. Last year, this Festival was hosted in China, and was meant to symbolize a celebration of those who are athletes or are athletic. The Sports Festival hosted many events, which is anticipated again this year, like soccer, running and tennis. There were many famous athletes in attendance at this even including LeBron James and Kyrie Irving. There have been talks as to an expansion of the activities for the Festival of Sports in the coming year.
